On-Farm Week Two: Tomatoesign, Approaching Garlic, Help, & Heat

Garden Growing - On-Farm Week Two: Tomatoesign, Approaching Garlic, Help, & Heat

The First TomatoExciting news, the first red tomato has been spotted! We will be spending lots of time pruning and trellising tomatoes this week.  With all the heat they’re growing like crazy. The garlic is already looking ready to harvest too, so that big job is coming up a little early this season.  It will be a busy few weeks.

Thankfully, for the next few months I’ll have a little extra help from our new farm hand, Kayla.
The eggplant, peppers, summer squash, and cucumbers are also loving the heat (although a little more rain would be nice), so you should be seeing some of them in your shares soon enough. This week we will harvest the last of the sugar snap peas and spinach until fall, but hopefully we’ll be seeing more of them down the road as the weather cools.
A few of the Spring crops I was hoping to have for you this week just couldn’t take the heat and accompanying flea beetle populations, but I’ll harvest some arugula and salad mix as extras for those of you who just love spicy greens and don’t mind the holes!
This week’s *ON-FARM ONLY* Share:
  • Peas
  • Garlic Scapes
  • Swiss Chard
  • Kale
  • Radishes
  • Lettuce
  • Spinach
  • Herbs
