Hello Farm Friends,
Happy Monday everyone, this may be a controversial opinion, but gosh the weather sure is lovely today.
I feel like we have won some kind of Spring lottery this year. The garden is looking lush and full of green thanks to all the rain we had after that heat wave and now it is cool enough to work without wilting before noon.
Tomorrow will be our first CSA pick-up of the Season so for any new members there are a few details to keep in mind:
Farm Pick-up time is Tuesday June 11th anytime between 3pm and 7pm at 251 Anderson Island Rd. [Directions in Google Maps, in Apple Maps] If you can’t make it, please arrange an alternative time with me. Email or text is best because I never have my phone on me in the field. My number is 647-928-5253.
The CSA set-up is market style so don’t forget to bring bags or a cooler to carry your vegetables home in. Greens and other loose items will usually be bagged or bunched or divided into pint containers to make everything a little quicker and easier. As always, I recommend washing everything before eating it. Although nothing is sprayed, it did come straight from the field, and although we use water to cool things down nothing is triple-washed like the ready-to-eat greens you find in the grocery store. A little garden dirt can be expected now and again.
I will be near the table to explain everything to any new members, so don’t worry if you are unsure!
We’ll continue with our circular driveway technique to help keep traffic going in one direction (see artwork below). The busiest time tends to be between 3pm and 5pm, so if you don’t mind a later pick-up you can avoid the crunch. I replenish the table as the day progresses, so you don’t have to worry about things being picked-over.
There is lots to harvest for this early in the Season so I hope you are as excited as I am!
For those of you who aren’t a part of the CSA, I will be returning to the Dufferin Grove Organic Farmers’ Market in Toronto on Thursday or if you are local, our Online Store is open and updated regularly so you can order for a Saturday morning pick-up.
Some of the lovely things you can expect to see in all of those places include buckets of garlic scapes coming in from the field, greens of many descriptions and the most giant radishes we’ve ever grown!
Sincerely,
— Jenny
