Hello Farm Friends,
In the coming weeks I hope to have lots of Spring greens and all your other favourites to put up on the online store, so if you didn’t sign-up for a Spring CSA share don’t despair, you still have a chance to enjoy a local salad after this long Winter.
However, with a little help from our friends, this Friday the first harvest of the season will be heading home with our Spring CSA members.
If you are one of those lucky people, here are some details you will need:
- Pickup time is between 4pm and 7pm beginning this Friday 17th
- The farm is located at 251 Anderson Island Rd, Frankford (we aren’t really in Frankford but the post office seems to think so)
- When you come you’ll want to bring something to take your veggies home in, a bag a box a cooler, whatever works for you.
- If you haven’t paid for your veggies yet, kindly send $240 to [email protected], or email me to let me know you will be bringing payment along with you.
When you arrive, I’ll be here to help you find your veggies.
If for some reason you aren’t able to pick-up at the appointed time, please let me know ahead of time and we can figure something out.
In other farm news, my small greenhouse is positively overflowing as we wait for nighttime temperatures to stay a little more consistent and for the fields to dry out. Today we found some space over at Small Spade to transplant Beets and Lettuce in the big greenhouse where our earlier transplants are looking happy and lots of crops that Lauren seeded last week are coming up.
Our news staff Charlie has joined us for the Season and she will be jumping back and forth between our two farms all Summer. Believe it or not there is already weeding to be done!
Sometime last week, in a brief dry moment I managed to seed some ealy oats as a Spring cover crop to keep our soil protected and help to build organic matter as well as potential mulching materials for the hot and dry months I know are ahead of us. I also snuck in an extra early patch of carrots and radishes just in case it is still too wet when they are scheduled to go in. Maybe we will get lucky and they won’t get washed away before they can germinate.
Looking forward to seeing some of you on Friday,
SIncerely,
— Jenny
