Setting Up

This evening my phone battery died as I went out to take photos and it was dark before it was charged up again, so I decided to leave this shot from last season. It’s hard to imagine Ernest was ever so small (and bald!) and my Swiss Chard was ever so big.

Everyone has been so understanding about the smaller shares this year, and although I know that’s what CSA is all about, Autumn without Squash just didn’t feel right. Over the next couple of weeks you’ll be receiving some beautiful Butternut Squash that was donated by our friends over at Eva Mae Farm near Brighton. Thanks again Eva Mae, we owe you one!

To round things out you’ll also be seeing some Delicata Squash from Wooler Dale Farm next week and may have enjoyed some colourful Carrots from Marvellous Edibles. Yay for all the great local organic growers I know, I hope I am able to do the same for others next season.

Over the next few week you’ll also be getting some fall radishes in your shares. For those of you who are unfamiliar with them, the black ones are Black Spanish and the pinkish ones are called Watermelon or Red Meat Radishes. They are both a little sweet and spicy and can be used just like red radishes or roasted like turnips.

Among This Week’s Line-up

  • Butternut Squash
  • Red Onions
  • Cabbage
  • Peppers (the very last this time)
  • Bok Choi
  • Radishes
  • Beets
  • Kale

Sincerely,

Jenny
