I can’t believe the 2018 CSA season is almost through, two more pick-ups in Toronto and three on the farm! Some of my late planted crops likely won’t be ready in time, but I promise to send a load of baby carrots next week and some winter radishes or baby daikon if i can. Butternut Squash will be coming too, but may need to ripen a while in a sunny window if we don’t get some sunny days before I harvest it.
Should we get a warm October and I find myself with a sudden late bounty I will likely offer a fall box at the end of the month. Let me know if you would be interested. I am also offering a special CSA member price on garlic of $10/lb, if anyone wants to stock up a little for winter. If you email me your order I will send it with the final pick-up.
For this week we will have another nice fall harvest now that the weather is calling out for hearty stews and roasted things. I’m afraid I didn’t grow any pie pumpkins this year for your thanksgiving tables, but red kuri squash has a sweet chestnut flavour, so don’t be shy to turn it (or any winter squash, really) into pumpkin pie if that is what you are craving! I know I am.
