A little rain is better than no rain!

Small Scale Organic Corn Field - A little rain is better than no rain!

This week I’m happy to report that we’re just a little less dry and a little less hot. The vegetables and farmers feel a bit of relief, and with a few more rains like that we will be singing a happy tune.

We were able to finish trellising and pruning all of our tomatoes last week and the garlic is hung and curing. Today we’re taking the opportunity to get a few of the overgrown weeds we missed along the way before they shed seed all over the garden!

The rain has finally brought along a decent crop of Spicy Salad Mix, so you will be seeing that in your share this week. Other new additions are savoy cabbage and sweet cipollini onions. If you aren’t familiar with the flat little cipollini, you are in for a treat, they have a much higher sugar content than standard onions and taste amazing roasted whole or caramelized.

I was really hoping to have beans for you, but they may need another week, we shall see tomorrow. Shishito peppers are also coming fast and have tons of flowers so there may be a few of those coming along sooner rather than later!

Sincerely,
Jenny
