Pretentious Skies and Lots of Garlic

Pretentious Skies - Pretentious Skies and Lots of Garlic

First a quick update for Toronto members and followers, we won’t be doing a box this Thursday (maybe next week), but I do have garlic listed on the Dufferin Farmers’ Market Web Store. There are lots of other great things there if you haven’t had a chance to check that out. The market web store is open ’till Noon on Tuesday then re-opens on Saturday.  If you just want some garlic to tide you over ’till the CSA starts e-mail me and we can arrange that too.

Here at the farm sometimes it is best not to check the forecast and unfortunately for me, this weekend was one of those times!

All week long the forecast suggested we would see a good rain fall on the weekend, (and some people did) but I spent much of Saturday watching as rain cloud after rain cloud blew over the farm. I won’t lie, it was incredibly frustrating!

For the time being our well is holding up, but all of my fingers and toes are crossed we get a good soaking soon, both the plants and I are starting to feel the stress.

In happier news, there are lots of flowers and even the tiniest peppers on our pepper plants, the first ripe tomatoes have been harvested and eggplants will be ready for your shares this week! Green beans will be ready for next week for sure.

Courtney and Kim spent the morning today harvesting all of the remaining garlic crop, and it is looking good, now we just need to get it all hung to cure, a perfect job for a rainy day…please?

Sincerely,
— Jenny
