CSA Week One + All The Markets!

Sonora Farming

Hello Knuckle Down Farm friends,

Our first vegetable share pick-up of the CSA season is upon us!

Here are some things you need to know:

Farm Pick-up time is Tuesday June 20 anytime between 3pm and 7pm at 251 Anderson Island Rd. [Directions in Google Maps, in Apple Maps] If you can’t make it, please arrange an alternative time with me. Email or text is best because I never have my phone on me in the field. My number is 647-928-5253.

We will continue with the market style pick-up so don’t forget to bring bags or a cooler to carry your vegetables home in. Greens and other loose items will be bagged or bunched or divided into pint containers to make everything a little quicker and easier. As always, I recommend washing everything before eating it. Although nothing is sprayed, it did come straight from the field, and although we use water to cool things down nothing is triple-washed like the ready-to-eat greens you find in the grocery store. A little garden dirt can be expected now and again.

I will be near the table to explain everything to any new members, so don’t worry if you are unsure!

We’ll continue with our circular driveway technique to help keep traffic going in one direction (see artwork below). The busiest time tends to be between 3pm and 4pm, so if you don’t mind a later pick-up you can avoid the crunch. I replenish the table as the day progresses, so you don’t have to worry about things being picked-over.

The garden is looking much greener and happier thanks to last week’s rain, so there will be lots of beautiful vegetables for everyone! Our peas are now flowering like mad and once we finish transplanting the Squash today dare I say we are pretty caught up on our transplanting. Time to turn our thoughts to trellising, weeding and seeding second and third successions of our direct seeded crops, oh and harvesting of course.

If you are following along, but are not a CSA member, we will also be harvesting for both of our regular Markets this week, Dufferin Grove on Thursday and the grand opening of the Stirling Market in the Village on Friday! I will also be sure to update the web store tomorrow evening.

And to my members, I’m looking forward to seeing you all tomorrow,

Sincerely,
— Jenny
