Hello Farm Friends,
Some of you have been waiting with great anticipation for our beautiful heirloom tomatoes to start producing and I’m happy to report that the time has finally come. On Friday, with the risk of lots more rain on the horizon, I decided to harvest any tomatoes that might be ready enough that they would crack with all that water. To my surprise there were lots of red tomatoes in the field!
The rain, humidity and not being able to keep up on pruning has me a little on edge about the potential for blight, but for now let’s just enjoy this bountiful harvest. This week, assuming the weather allows, I will be back at both of my Markets so let’s hope our plants continue to produce with such enthusiasm. Thanks to those of you who used our online store when the Friday Market was cancelled, Peter just updated it and it looks great. If you haven’t tried it yet, give it a go, we would love your feedback as well as your orders!
👉 Once the Market in the Village closes in the Fall, the online store is our only outlet for local sales and we’d love to know how we can make it convenient for you to use. Would you be more likely to use it if we provided delivery or pickups at different times or locations, for example? We’re grateful for all feedback and thoughts.
With the few extra days we have had on the farm we have been able to catch up on some much needed weeding and late season seeding and transplanting. Some of our Fall crops went in a few weeks late, but with all this rain I’m hoping we will get lucky. In the meantime, we have a beautiful looking crop of Peppers, Eggplants and Beets coming along and lots more Potatoes and Onions. Our Summer planting of Cabbage is looking healthy too and I’m crossing my fingers for some Broccoli this year, although Red Cabbage and Broccoli seem to be my Achilles heel.
Onward into August we go, let Harvest Season begin!
Sincerely,
— Jenny
