Hello Farm Friends,
On this cool blustery afternoon it is hard to believe it is still August, but I’m sure Summer will be back by the end of the week so I’m just enjoying the break from the heat.
All that rain has encouraged our last plantings of Carrots, Beets, and Fall Radishes to sprout quickly so I’m hopeful we will have lots to harvest when the Season really does turn cool. Our Squash plot has become a bit of a weedy mess, but I’m pretty sure there is a half decent crop under the weeds. Perhaps we will try to tackle that this week.
Today I spent some time cutting down overgrown beds of salad mix and other areas that we have finished harvesting from. Niamh tackled all of the tiny weeds that were trying to take over our newly planted beds before things got too wet again.
This afternoon we will be cleaning garlic while it drizzles or planting the last of the transplants if the drizzle stops.
Tomorrow we will be harvesting some Celery for our CSA shares and we should have lots of Fingerling Potatoes for both our shares and Markets this week!
If it warms up a little, I’m sure we will have lots more tomatoes too. Our second planting of beans isn’t quite ready for tomorrow, but we might have some in time for the Market. It is a French Filet Bean, which always looks so elegant and has given us great crops in the past. I’m looking forward to sharing them with you, slightly less looking forward to harvesting them all, the plants are a bit wild this year.
Sincerely,
— Jenny
