Hello Farm Friends,
Sometimes it’s hard to maintain a positive note in these newsletters and folks, I really wish I had better news to share today. Unfortunately, we are once again looking at a multi-day heat warning with not even a hint of rain on either side of it. Needless to say, the plants are suffering.
This is the time of year when the abundance on the farm usually far exceeds what I need for my CSA shares and my Market Table is full. Instead, I am struggling to fill my CSA shares and, if it weren’t for garlic, I wouldn’t have enough to head to market at all.
Thankfully, our tomatoes are beginning to ripen and I do have a few crops that are coming along thanks to constant irrigation, we have seedlings waiting in the wings to be planted out just as soon as the temperature drops a degree or two and our direct seeded Fall crops are beginning to germinate, although how well remains to be seen.
With a bit of rain, Fall abundance is still a possibility.
This week, it is not.
CSA members: I will do my very best to pull something out of the field tomorrow, however, if any of you would like to skip your pick-up tomorrow and take your chances with doubling up your share later in the season, or adding a week at the end of the Season I would be grateful. Kindly email me back letting me know so I can adjust my harvest numbers.
Market customers, if you know you will need garlic eventually, consider popping by and stocking up, every little bit helps right now as my weekly expenses getting to market don’t go down even when the chance of precipitation does!
Sincerely,
— Jenny
