Hello Farm Friends,
It has been a bit of a whirlwind since the last newsletter went out, with the cold nights delaying some of our planting and my first Market coming up this weekend, I know things are only going to get busier!
Before the rain today we planted out lots of our remaining cold hardy crops like Cabbage, Collards, Kohlrabi, and Celeriac. Well, mostly Charlie transplanted while I struggled to stay ahead of her with the tiller and then struggled even more with some overgrown paperpots. We also seeded another bed of greens and radishes, only a week behind schedule and now have a few beds waiting for us to plant once the rain passes.
Charlie has been holding down the Spring CSA while both Lauren and I juggle off-farm commitments, so a special thanks to both her and Peter for keeping things alive and running smoothly well I was away.
Next week Niamh will be joining us just in time for a mini heatwave. I think it is going to be a bit of a shock, but perfect for those of you who are hoping to get outside for the long weekend!
Speaking of the weekend, this Saturday I will be heading to the Cobourg Farmers’ Market for my debut. If you are in the area come say hello, I won’t have a huge table, but I will be bringing some Lovely Lettuce Mix along with other Spring Greens and for the pie lovers, Rhubarb!
If you are a Spring CSA member you can look forward to Rhubarb too, we have enough for everyone this week.
Perhaps you are more of a savoury pie person? If so, we’ve got salad turnips this week too, put the turnips in your salad and put the tops in your pie. Perfect for a quiche too.
When you come to the farm to pick-up your veggies this week, take a little stroll over to our plum trees, they are full of blossoms right now and smell so sweet, it really is worth stopping to smell the flowers.
Sincerely,
— Jenny
