Intense heat, toxic air, and market tornado warnings (but not for me, I was on vacation)

Thanks to my great farm crew, now I know I can go on vacation at the peak of the Season. That said, I don’t think I will make a habit of leaving in July, although I wasn’t sad to miss the intense heat, toxic air and market tornado warnings!

A big thanks to Sonora, Niamh and Charlie for dealing with those hurdles and still bringing beautiful veggies out of the field for me.

The weeds didn’t mind the heat at all and I’m pretty sure put on an extra foot of growth while I was gone just to laugh at me for thinking we had it under control this year, so we will have our work cut out for us wrestling the garden back.

But first, it is Garlic harvest time!

Today we made a valiant effort to get as much Garlic harvested as we could before the rain that is forecast for tomorrow, rain that the garden will be happy for I should add. The kids even pitched in for a bit which helped move things along at a good clip.

One more day and we should have it all out, ’till then I’m not even going to look at the to do list, it may be be a tad longer than it would have been, but it was worth it, this farmer needed a Summer vacation. BC is as beautiful as I remember, almost as lovely as my niece and her new husband. Congratulations again to the newlyweds, so glad I got to be there!
