Suddenly we’re at mid-season and with a whole lot of rain on the way, today we were scrambling to get a few beds ready for our direct seeded Fall crops!

When it’s raining this week we’ll have lots of time to catch up on cleaning and hanging garlic, and seeding all the trays that I have been ignoring for a few weeks.

The lion’s share of the weeding is done, the garlic is out and our greenhouse tomatoes are trellised so hopefully we can tackle the rest of the field tomatoes soon.

The Summer harvests are starting to roll in now too with the first of the beans, peppers and tomatoes joining the zucchini this week.

The are quite enough for everyone yet, but by next week I think it will be a different story!

My friend Hannah dropped by with a beautiful load of giant pickling cucumbers, so if anyone is in the mood for pickles while we wait for our cukes just bring along some cash tomorrow.

This week we’ll also be back at both the Stirling Farmers’ Market, Friday 4pm-7pm and the Cobourg Farmers’ Market, Saturday 8am-1pm. Sorry we couldn’t make it last week Cobourg, I’m looking forward to being back with all the bounty the rain will bring!

Knuckle Down Farm is a small-scale organic market garden sitting on a quiet back-channel of the Trent River. We grow over fifty varieties of vegetables, herbs, and flowers with care and individual attention. Our CSA veggie shares provide fresh, delicious, organic produce all summer while connecting members with the place their food is grown and the farmers who grow it. You can also find us at the Dufferin Grove farmers' market. Farmer Jenny started Knuckle Down Farm in 2012 and moved to Quinte West in 2014.
