Fly the Coop, So to Speak — Knuckle Down News, Week 6

Wheel Hoe

Chicken Update: today when Kate and I went to finish the chicken coop, before fetching our hens, we were greeted by two irritated swallows. It turns out the swallows’ nest in our coop is quite occupied at the moment, so rather than disturb the little family we decided to wait until the little ones fly the coop — so to speak — before moving chickens in.

In other news, as we slowly battle back the weeds, we sometimes are surprised to find crops ready that we hadn’t noticed from a distance. Today we were pleased to see that the beans are well on the way (next week for sure) and that there are a few heads of cauliflower to harvest for you.

We will also be sending shelling peas this week, if you can get home without eating them all, they are great for freezing!

Digging thingPeas,

This week’s line-up:
Cabbage
Beets
Chard
Shelling Peas (also called green peas, garden peas, pod peas)
Cauliflower (or Broccoli)
Salad Turnips
Summer Squash (Zucchini)
Herbs

Sincerely,
Jenny
