Beta Vulgaris, Best Vulgaris! (Beet That)

pwJZYVNE5VKuyUTK - Beta Vulgaris, Best Vulgaris! (Beet That)

Kate, Jenny, & the Very Large BeetOur clay soil isn’t the best for some crops but boy do Beets seem to love it, Kate found the monster in the picture while we were harvesting last week. I think we could feed the whole farm family with just that one beet!

This time last year we had already had a light frost, it’s hard to imagine that out there in the field today.

There are a few harbingers of fall this week though. There are giant flocks of restless birds overhead and the first of the Acorn Squash is ready. Spinach will be along next week.

We aren’t ready to pull out the sweaters quite yet though.

I’m hoping I’ll be able to find enough ripe melons for everyone this week. If there aren’t enough I might just ask that the first to arrive take them this week and then next week I’ll send more for anyone who missed out.

There aren’t as many flawless tomatoes in the field this week, but I am happy to send some of more damaged ones along as extras for anyone who wants to make some sauce to freeze. Let me know if you would be interested, we can’t keep up up here.
