2017 CSA Registration Open

CSA Table - 2017 CSA Registration Open

Farmer Jenny

Inspired by an optimistic groundhog, who took a look around Thursday morning and predicted an early Spring, I thought it high time I shake off my winter hibernation and invite you to join me for a new growing season! With water levels rising in the well, colourful seed catalogues strewn about the house and sunshine making the greenhouse feel like Summer, it’s easy to let the optimism take root here on the farm.

I’ve had lots of time to reflect on last season and am excited to make a few changes and try out some new techniques that will hopefully mean more and better vegetables for you, as well as less stress for me. These include a more efficient irrigation system, increasing water storage capacity and trying out some different weed management strategies. I will also be taking a portion of the garden out of production to focus on some intensive perennial weed control that we didn’t have time to undertake when we first put the garden in three years ago.

Eric of Eva Mae Farm, who gave us the beautiful butternut squash last season, has agreed to grow a few varieties of squash for us again this year. Squash is a very space-intensive crop so this will help free up big chunk of garden here.

CSA TableI’ve also decided not to expand my Toronto membership. That means that I won’t be taking on any new members in the city until I have heard back from each and every one of you! If you know you’re coming back (or if you know you won’t be), but aren’t quite ready to make that deposit, please let me know as soon as you can. Speaking of deposits, registration is open!

My Toronto members will also likely notice that the price has gone up, I hate to do this on the heels of last season, but I had to look realistically at the impact the rise in gas price is having on my weekly trips to and from the city, and that is reflected in the new share cost. As always, if the price is prohibitive for anyone please talk to me and I will do my best to accommodate you.

Here is the break down:
