Bubalus bubalis

Last Wednesday was so hot I had to take the afternoon off and finish harvesting at sunset.   Today a warm fire and hot chocolate would be in order.  All I can say is thank goodness it wasn’t quite cold enough for a frost before we head back up toward 30 degrees this week, welcome to September in Ontario!

Trying to catch up on some administrative duties today at my “standing desk” change table while it rains.  Yesterday was a long day of tomato harvesting trying to rescue what I could from the inevitable cracking tomorrow.  Even so, I only got two thirds of the way through, it is a tomato jungle out there!

Between the rain and the tomatoes I haven’t had a chance for a good thorough field walk, but I think I can safely say our second planting of beans is coming along beautifully and this cool weather along with a good soaking should give all of our fall crops a bit of a boost. There may even be some head lettuce and (dare I say it?) spicy salad mix in our future soon.

In other news, did you know that Stirling has a Water Buffalo Festival? Well it does, if you’re in the neighbourhood check it out.  There’s a chance I’ll even be there selling cherry tomatoes and if not, you can always console yourself with a water buffalo ride, well not really a ride, they mostly just ignore you while you sit on them and take photos
