The Final Pick-Up of the Season

Brussels Sprouts - The Final Pick-Up of the Season

Well, we are wrapping up the season, and not a moment too soon as it looks like temperatures will plummet before the weekend! Brrrrr.

Thanks to everyone who has responded about Week Twenty substitutes. I’m keeping track of everyone’s choices so never fear if you haven’t heard back from me yet. If you haven’t decided, just remember if you would like extras this week I will be harvesting them tomorrow morning so I need to know this evening if possible.

This morning when I was harvesting I decided to check on our winter radishes. I had mostly given up on them as they really got off to a slow start. Lucky for us all this rain has given them a little growth spurt. They are are still wee, but big enough to eat and so pretty I had to harvest them. Feeling optimistic I decided to see if there were any beets in my too late planted beet bed, and sure enough I found a few baby beets too, so if you have been missing your beets you may be in luck this week.

We also have baby carrots and baby cabbage for you this week, all the baby vegetables!

In other garden discoveries, did you know you can eat Brussels sprout crowns? I never grow Brussels sprouts because more often then not I can’t get the timing right to fit into the CSA schedule. This year I planted a few surprise plants and sure enough the sprouts have not sized up just yet, but the crowns are ready. I will send them along with the cabbages for anyone who wants something a little different.

Hopefully I will see most of you this week, if not, have a restful winter and I look forward to growing for many of you again soon!

Sincerely,

— Jenny
