Hello farm friends,
Anyone who has ever grown zucchini knows that when they decide to produce you better not take your eyes off them even for a day. This is where we find ourselves right now on the farm.
(A pleasant distraction from my worries about an over-abundance of kale and swiss chard).
If anyone knows anyone who is in need of a large quantity of any of those things please send them our way! We are also looking for a good organization to donate missed share pick-ups or other extras locally. If anyone has a favourite organization that can handle fresh produce I would love to hear about them.
In other farm news, with a little help from our Tuesday volunteer crew, we managed to get the last of the garlic harvested and it is now curing everywhere we could find room. A few dry days gave me the chance to do some weeding in the more recently planted areas of the garden, where the weeds were still small enough. Thankfully, where the weeds are jungle sized and will need to be pulled by hand, the crops are also well established so they are holding their own. Hopefully we will get to most of them before they begin to drop millions of seeds!
Green Cabbage, Fennel and a trickling of Beans and Tomatoes will be our new kids on the block this week.
The Peppers, which were a bit slow with the cool nights early in the Season have definitely had a growth spurt, so green Peppers should be along soon. We still have to be patient with the potatoes, a few weeks yet I think.
Okay, well I’m off to make some zucchini muffins, and fritters, and soup, and…who am I kidding we won’t make a dent!
