Happy Election day, I hope everyone was able to exercise their right to vote (without too long of a line-up).
A little late sitting down at the computer this evening, somehow things don’t seem to be slowing down just yet around here.
This week we are getting harvests ready for our CSA, the Homegrown Hamper, The Dufferin Grove Farmers Market, The Stirling Market in the Village, and the Taste of Tweed festival! Somehow between all of that I would love to get at least a bed or two seeded with a Fall cover crop before the forecasted downpours. Thank goodness it looks like it will be a beautiful day tomorrow.
The previous downpour caused all of our field tomatoes to crack, so I think we will have to call Heirloom Tomato Season done for this year. The good news is there are lots of new things coming out of the field this week.
Spaghetti Squash are abundant, the colourful carrots are just big enough to start digging and we even have the first of the fall radishes. I also have some pretty pink celery this week that has a robust flavour perfect for flavouring stocks or roasts.
Dinosaur Kale and Collards will be back on the harvest list too and the peppers just keep coming.
Lots to look forward to still, as we enter the final stretch of the growing season!
Sincerely,
— Jenny
