Hello Farm Friends,
We are about to step into August and the list of veggies that are ready to harvest is growing!
We are nowΒ entering peak season for vegetables here inΒ Southern Ontario and thankfully the weather has cooled down enough that we can all consider cooking again. However, if you are still finding it too hot to turn on that oven, grab your favourite cucumber salad recipe or sandwich bread because we will have cucumbers and tomatoes coming out of the field this week. Or if you are partial to a BBQ, marinated zucchini and eggplant make a great burger even better, or skip the burger altogether, grilled veggie sandwiches make a perfect Summer meal.
Now I am making myself hungry, I guess I shouldn’t write the newsletter at dinnertime!
We did not get through our long list of “things to do before the end of July” but that is not surprising, especially because the first thing on my to-do list was “everything”. We have made a good start, but if anyone wishes they could come over and weed with us for a few hours Sonora and I would be happy to share the task. I took a before and after picture of the Beets I did finish so that you can see how satisfying it is.
Although all this rain has brought lots of extra hand weeding and too many cracked tomatoes, it also brings a new crop of beautiful lettuce and so many cucumbers! The Squash and potato plants are also looking huge and healthy so I’m looking forward to some heavy harvests this fall.
But let’s not think about Fall too much just yet!
Sincerely,
β Jenny
