Can the CBC Keep the Corn Thieves Away?

cbc standing guard for thee

Hello Farm Friends,

To my Toronto customers, I’m so sorry to be missing the market once again. Unfortunately we still don’t have our van back, all of my fingers are crossed for next week.

In the meantime, as it is almost time to think about planting garlic, I have decided to celebrate the coming of Fall with a September 🧄 Garlic Sale!

So my Toronto customers don’t miss out, I have added the Dufferin Grove Farmers’ Market as a pick-up location and will bring it just as soon as I am back. If you are local and wish to order you can choose to pick-up at the Stirling Market in the Village on Friday or at the Farm on Saturday morning. Other pick-up times are also possible, as long as we connect ahead of time.

There are a few new things coming out of the field for the CSA this week, including new potatoes and if all goes well, sweet corn.

As soon as the racoons start stealing corn I know it must be time to harvest, so the kids tested a few and agreed it is pretty good. Yesterday I cut a bunch of buckthorn branches and put them around the edges hoping that the prickly branches might be a good deterrent to clever little raccoon fingers. For added protection I left a radio outside playing the CBC all night long, because to be honest, the news is pretty scary these days. This morning I didn’t see any new damage! Hopefully it will work again tonight and there will be enough corn for everyone to get at least a couple tomorrow.

Sincerely,
— Jenny
