Hello Farm Friends,
Happy Labour Day, I hope you are all enjoying this beautiful long weekend.
The summer has been a bit of a blur, much of which I’m happy to put behind me, but still I’m a bit surprised that the kids will be back to school the day after tomorrow! Gosh.
Thankfully, our kids will be picked up by a school bus on Wednesday, as we still haven’t heard when we might be seeing our van again. Turns out that just as we feared, the transmission was the culprit and therefore it may take some time to get it back on the road. Sorry to say that we will likely be missing the Dufferin Grove Farmers’ Market again this week as a result.
Thanks to the generosity of one of our neighbours (also a CSA member), we do have use of a vehicle so we aren’t entirely marooned here one the farm. In fact, I want to say that I’ve been truly touched by all of the folks who have offered us support through this difficult season. With Peter and I both working from home, our closest family an hour away and not having grown up in the area, we sometimes miss the close knit group of friends and family we left when we moved to the farm. However, the number of people offering us a helping hand over the past few months has given me a whole new perspective on where we live.
Friends, other farmers, CSA members and even some folks I’ve never met in person, you really have put the community in community supported agriculture.
While meditating on these thoughts of what really makes a person rich, I have also been busy, planting, weeding, and harvesting!
This week we have more beautiful tender beans and some nice Pai Tsai, Bok Choi and Sprouting Broccoli to add to our shares and the tomatoes are still ripening well despite the cool nights. Next week we should have a whole bunch of news crops ready, including green cabbage and fingers crossed sweet corn!
Sincerely,
— Jenny
