Hello Farm Friends,
As the growing season for 2025 comes to a close I’m perhaps a little more ready than usual to see the end of it and move on to planning for next year.
That being said, looking back over my notes from the past few months, it helps to remind myself that despite struggling with extreme heat, severe drought, and occasionally poor air quality, we still managed to harvest many beautiful vegetables. Some were smaller than we would have liked, some took longer to get established, and some never came at all, but we just kept planting and because we did, this week we have baby carrots!
It’s easy to focus on all of the things that didn’t work, but I think it’s also important to remember that so many vegetables did make it from our little farm to our customers. Once they leave my hands, I don’t get to see all of the delicious meals that they become, but I can imagine them. When I do, I hope that the many good meals we contributed to brought a little joy to people’s tables and if so, then we succeeded.
For our final CSA Harvest I will have some extras available for those of you who kindly agreed to skip a week during the height of the drought, you folks have been the best, I couldn’t ask for a more supportive group of members.
Although we don’t have a huge Fall crop, I harvested the Rutabaga and Celeriac for a little something new for our final shares and the last of the potatoes have finally been dug.
To my market customers, I hope to be back one final time in November, but if not, I will be at the last outdoor Dufferin Grove Farmers’ Market this week with a lantern this time so you can find me in the dark.
Farming may not be an easy way to make a living, but I hope the hard years will only help us appreciate the good years more.
Sincerely,
— Jenny
