Pumpkin Season!

nice bag - Pumpkin Season!

Hello Farm Friends,

Everywhere you go at this time of year pumpkin themed treats, decorations, and beverages abound. I don’t have any of those, but I do have pie pumpkins this week for anyone who wants to make their own!

Some of them could use a little more ripening, but despite the ridiculous heat today, by Thursday we are likely dipping below zero so all the Squash and Pumpkins will have to finish their ripening off the vine.

Before the weather turns colder, it looks like we might have a rainy CSA pick-up tomorrow. I won’t complain though, our well is so low again I can’t irrigate at all right now and I’m really hoping a few things will still have time to size up a bit before it freezes for good!

Also new on our harvest list tomorrow is some lovely Savoy Cabbage. Sweeter and a little looser than green Cabbage, versatile Savoy is delicious raw, roasted or sauteed. Finally, Celery, it may be a little smaller and tougher than you are used to, but it has all the celery flavour you need.

Before Niamh left, one of her last tasks was to weed a very weedy bed of tiny beets. Niamh, if you are reading this you will be happy to know those beets appreciated your efforts and are now making beautiful bunches. I know some beet loving customers were also pretty happy about it at the market last week and our CSA members will enjoy them tomorrow.

This Friday will be our Harvest Market in Stirling, Mill Street will be shut down to make room for more vendors, food and music. If you can, come celebrate the end of Market season with us.

Finally, sometimes CSA members have hidden talents and last week I learned that one of mine does beautiful embroidery, thanks for the thoughtful gift Jenn! I’m sure a photo won’t do it justice, but I have to show it off.

Sincerely,
— Jenny
