Hello Farm Friends,
Welcome to those who will be joining us for the final 8 weeks of our CSA Season. If you haven’t signed up yet, this is your last minute reminder, sign-up now and you can start this week!
Over the long weekend we decided to check if our old friend Lake Ontario was still there because we heard a rumour it had vanished off of maps in some places. I’m happy to report it is indeed still there and looking beautiful as always. In fact, I was a little disappointed we didn’t bring our bathing suits!
Today Peter and I finally started the overdue project of repairing our greenhouse. We need to replace some of the old wood so that we can get new plastic put on before the weather turns too cold. Of course that means digging out the old wood first and there are a few wasps who would prefer I didn’t do that, so progress is slow.
I have also begun to pull our storage onions in the hope we can dry out the roots a little in the sun before we pull them out of the field to cure. We were also able to use these sunny days to harvest some of our flowers for drying and we are looking forward to playing with those later on in the season.
The kids are back in school, the days are getting shorter, the Summer just flew by for me this year. This week I am hoping to get just a few more beds of greens and cover crops seeded as we are running up against our final seeding dates!
Enjoy these warm Sunny days while we can.
— Jenny
